Gather Round the Ice Cream Truck

Joel Gordon, the Furnishing Families of Texas Moves and Logistics Manager, told us some stories the other day and we wanted to share them with you!

I remember a delivery we did for a mother in Fort Worth who had 5 children. We provided them everything for a three bedroom house including bunk beds, trundles, a sectional, dining table with chairs, and the list goes on. This is a pretty common thing for us to do, but what was special about it to me was when I went outside. I saw our driver and co-worker Keith buying ice cream for the whole neighborhood. Keith was relatively new to the team so it was amazing to see his heart for the community children and it exemplified what I believe we are about.

Seeing what was happening, Jesus called for the parents, the children, and his disciples to come and listen to him. Then he told them, “Never hinder a child from coming to me but let them all come, for God’s kingdom belongs to them as much as it does to anyone else. These children demonstrate to you what faith is all about. Luke 18:16 TPT

Another thing that comes to mind is the relationship we formed with the Marriott. It took us a lot of manpower from workers and volunteers to empty an entire hotel pretty much over the course of a few trips. In the following months, the furniture that the Marriott donated became a staple of what we furnished our clients. It wouldn’t surprise me if over 100 families were blessed one way or another by the generosity and hard work put into the days we picked up that huge donation.

Furnishing Families of Texas relies on the generosity of donors, both large and small, to transform empty dwellings into functioning homes for families who need a new beginning. Whether you know about an entire hotel full of furniture or your next door neighbor is remodeling, we want to know about it. Contact us HERE for details of how we can connect to bless a family with furniture and love.

As One,
